About this design

Each print shows how long the sun stays up, week by week, across one full year at a different latitude:

  • 0°: The Equator. Twelve hours of light, every single week.
  • 45° N: The mid-latitudes. A gentle swell from winter to summer.
  • 70° N: The Arctic. Polar night (tiny dots) turning into the midnight sun (full capsules).

How to read it

Every capsule is one week (January → December). The pale track is 24 hours; the golden part is the time from sunrise to sunset, centred on solar noon. One bold terracotta sun sits above midsummer. The day lengths are calculated with standard astronomical formulas, including atmospheric refraction.
